Atlanta Braves Charlie Morton Leaning on Pitching in 2025

Finally Atlanta Braves Season looked like Charlie Morton’s future up in the air. When asked about the possibility of retiring at almost 41, he explained that he wasn’t ready to make a decision about it yet.

Less than a month later, it looks like he may be tempted to step back once again. MLB.com Mark Bowman reported in a story He said Thursday that Morton wants to play in 2025.

While he didn’t say he’s guaranteed to re-sign with the Braves, he did add that he could still be useful to the team.

“Atlanta needs insurance for Spencer Strider returning from America. right elbow ligament surgeryand the back end of its return,” Bowman wrote.

This would also give the Braves extra breathing room in the rotation should Max Fried become a free agent. With a healthy Strider, they would have at least seven starting options with MLB experience if they re-sign Morton.

Some variation of these six men could be what they play together to start the season. This depends on whether Strider is healthy and signs another starter in free agency, but there’s a good chance.

The proposed contract would be a one-year deal worth between $10 million and $15 million. That would mean a cut of three-quarters to half of his $20 million salary from a season ago. Despite its age, this could be a steal. Spotrac still gives Morton a market value $17.6 million per year.

I’m not sure if a team would be willing to pay him that much, but first-year starters are paying double that these days. Maybe this number will be checked.

Meanwhile, the offseason has just begun. We’ll have to wait and find out how confident Morton is of returning and whether that return will be with the Braves.
